The Futura x Off-White x Nike Dunk Low Collection is Finally Coming
First teased during Paris Fashion Week 2019. One of the two iterations is inspired by the University of North Carolina Tar Heels while the other draws from the Syracuse Orangemen — two powerhouse institutions when it comes to National Collegiate Athletic Association Basketball.
[Update 24 Jan 2024] Almost a year after news broke out that the Futura x Off-White x Nike Dunk Low sneakers will be released solely via auction, fresh images of the much-coveted pair have just surfaced.
[Update 23 Mar 2023] At the time of original writing, the shoes were purported to be released on the late great Virgil Abloh’s birthday last year. Howbeit, new information has surfaced that the memorial, collaborative pairs will be released solely via auction, its first and only public release since debuting in the designer’s Off-White Spring/Summer 2020 “PLASTIC” show.
Nike and Futura Laboratories have teamed up with Sothebys to auction the two pairs off for the benefit of the Virgil Abloh Foundation. Bidding will transpire form 5 to 14 April at sothebys.com. Starting at US$1, only eight pairs will be made available of the once F&F exclusive.
One year after the passing of Virgil Abloh, the late-great designer still had footwear offerings, museum exhibitions and more left sitting in the vault waiting to reach the masses. One of the most highly anticipated offerings by him is the upcoming Futura x Off-White x Nike Dunk Low Collection.
Coming in the classic Dunk construction of all-leather across the upper, both pairs come in a two-tone palette reminiscent of a typical UNC and Syracuse colorway, featuring tie-dye underlays.
Like many of Abloh’s past Dunk designs, both pairs come in wide lacing layout, zip-ties, and the “SHOELACES” at the tips of the strings. There is an extra laces loop on the upper in an accenting orange hue to add some flair to the design.
The medial side of the midfoot features the Off-White Helvetica font with “Nike Dunk Low” text in a graffiti-style font and the heel overlay has “FL” which stands for Futura Laboratories stamped atop. Special insoles featuring Futura’s insignia in a repeated pattern and white midsole paired with a semi-translucent rubber outsole that housed Futura’s signature underneath finish off the look.
The Futura x Off-White x Nike Dunk Low Collection is a perfect blend of three dominant styles of Nike Dunk Low silhouette, typical Off-White design details, and the Futura’s unmistakable graffiti-style, hence, making the collection a must-have! Both colorways of the Futura x Off-White x Nike Dunk Low are rumored to release on 30th September which is the late designer’s birthday, likely through Nike SNKRS. Releasing in men’s sizing, the retail price is still unknown. For more updates on this special collection of Nike Dunk Low colorways and more, keep it locked to SNKRDUNK Magazine!
