First Looks: New Nike Air Max 1 in Shades of Brown

Air Max Day may be over, but fans have got nothing to fear - there's much more coming in the last few months of the year.

With the Air Max’s 35th Anniversary out of the way, Nike is taking a break and shifting its focus towards other classic silhouettes like the Air Force 1, Air Jordan 1 and SB Dunk Low. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t look forward to more Air Maxes towards the later part of the year. Along with other releases like the organ-themed Air Max 95 “Anatomy of Air” (“Flesh” and “Skeleton” are dropping on 28 Jul, while a third “Spine” colourway just surfaced), this freshly leaked Air Max 1 dressed in “Sail”, “Ironstone” and other shades of brown is a design that’s caught our attention.

The sneaker’s unnamed colourway exudes a neutral warmth through its brown and off-white tones. The underlying white mesh across the toebox, upper, heel and tongue provides a blank canvas which “Sail”-coloured suede, dark brown Swooshes and eyestays, and “Rattan” midsoles build upon.

The unique tongue tab is the only deviation from the overall theme. Rather than the typical Nike branding, it features a block of retro Serif text explaining the function of Nike Air cushioning. Besides this, the text appears to be drawn over with a neon green highlighter, much like a student making notes on a textbook.

Once released, the colourway’s name might shed some light on the significance behind this stylistic choice, but we believe it might represent a look back at the invention of Air Max cushioning in 1987. What do you think?

Not much official information is currently available about this new Air Max 1, but we do know that it’s expected to release around Fall 2022, so stay tuned as more details surface!
