It might be obscure history for sneaker enthusiasts born at the precipice of the last millennium, but before Kobe Bryant built a signature sneaker line with Nike that’s still popular today with NBA players like Devin Booker and PJ Tucker, he had a pair with the Three Stripes.
At 21 years old, Bryant was already a 4x All-Star and en route to winning an NBA championship. With that level of talent and reputation at that young an age, it’s really hard to stay humble. And Kobe wasn’t known for his humility at that time either – which naturally didn’t endear him to a chunk of the public – but he was indeed, a crazy one.
While the Jordan XIV was inspired by Michael’s favourite Ferrari, the Crazy 1’s design was also based off an automobile – the Audi TT Roadster. Originally named The Kobe, the shoe was as divisive as its namesake in 2000. Consider the design unconventional or perhaps, just ahead of its time – but they’re back, and back in a black-and-white ‘Stormtrooper’ colorway.
For those with a more vibrant palate however, check out the previously-leaked “Metallic Silver” or “Sunshine” colorways.
In other sneaker-related news, the adidas Yeezy 950 is also making its own return after 8 years.
