Despite all the buzz surrounding Air Jordan 37 and its September debut, the Air Jordan 36 is pushing its way back into the spotlight with two elements that the Jordan team knows will get people riled up: limited edition and country-related. Combining the two results in the newly unveiled Air Jordan 36 “Paris”, whereby only 2629 pairs will be produced.
The Jordan brand’s affiliation with the City of Love is not a new affair, but it is usually in the form of Quai 54-themed shoes for the Parisian basketball festival. This latest salute to the city is packed with references to what Paris is known for. An eye-catching colorway, a sunset-like gradient of pink and purple dresses the mesh side walls of the upper. In contrast, simple “Sail” takes over the toe tips, overlay panels and the tongues. When viewed from above, these tonal areas with lines embossed over them reveal the map of Paris. Best part? these lines are actually made of hi-vis reflective material, so the map stands out as the night deepens — perhaps a nod to Paris’ reputation as the City of Light.
A “PANAME” (slang for Paris) tag hangs off the eyelets while the heel tabs feature a spelt-out “36” on the left and numerical “75” on the right. The 36 as a reference to the Air Jordan model, and 75 as a nod to the city’s zip code. The limited edition nature of this release is also imprinted onto the shoe itself, with the inner side of the tongue reflecting which pair you received out of the 2629.
