Sneaker Details

Nike pays homage to the legendary Marion Franklin Rudy, the aerospace engineer who created Nike’s Air technology, through this Nike Air Max 90 “M. Frank Rudy”.

A combination of white and off-white mesh, leather, and suede materials cover the entire upper of the sneaker. “Est. 1990” is printed right onto the exposed air cushioning, referencing the year of the model’s introduction. The heel tab is rendered with a similar “air pocket” appearance, mimicking the look of exposed Air bubbles.

As another special shoutout to the late Rudy, “M. Frank Rudy” is printed onto the aglets. Additionally, blueprint sketches of Nike Air and Rudy’s signature can also be found on the graphic insoles. A symbolic California “Nike Air” license plate hangtag is strung on the laces, a nod to the state in which Rudy resided in the latter part of his life.

Completing the look is a yellowed Air unit, symbolising the passing of time since Rudy first invented this iconic technology.
