If you’re a Kith or New Balance fan, you’ve likely heard about their upcoming collaboration, the Kith x New Balance 990V4 “United Arrows”. What many might not know, however, is that the “United Arrows” is part of something much bigger than anybody could have imagined. In celebration of the 10th anniversary of lifestyle brand Kith, the 40th anniversary of the ever-iconic New Balance 990 silhouette, and the 40th birthday of Kith’s founder Ronnie Fieg, the two brands have collaborated to release the Kith x New Balance 990 Collection, consisting of one distinct colourway on all four generations of the New Balance 990!
Kith will be dropping these generational tributes in reverse order: starting with the 990V4 on June 15, then the 990V3 on June 16, 990V2 on June 17 and ending off the celebration with the 990V1 on June 18. Each colourway featured represents one of Fieg’s favourite colourways throughout the history of Kith and New Balance’s extensive collaboration, picked out by the Fieg himself.
Following the reverse order of release: the 990V4 “United Arrows” is reminiscent of the 2018 Kith x United Arrows & Sons x New Balance collab in 2018 as well as the United Arrows & Sons x NB997.5 release in 2008. It pulls its pink and purple highlights from its inspirations, but switches up the textures, opting for pony hair and pigskin suede that overlaps the underlying grey mesh. Next, the 990V3 “Daytona” recalls the Kith x NB1600 that debuted in 2013, drawing its colours from Daytona Beach, Florida. It features the same deep blue, tan and cream upper that collectively complement a glaring pink NB logo.
Kicking off the second half of the Collection’s release is the 990V2 “Cyclades”, an evolution of the 2016 Kith x NB997.5 release, plastered with bright teal, orange and cream inspired by a visit to Mykonos Island in Greece. Finally, the 990V1 “Dusty Rose” takes its colourway from the 990V2 “Dusty Rose”, first released in 2020. It is almost entirely covered with a muted pink, or ‘Dusty Rose’ colour, complemented by equally neutral black, white and greys.
Altogether, the Kith x New Balance 990 Collection is a tribute to the rich and wonderful history of the collaboration, of Kith, and of Fieg himself. The individual sneakers will release on Kith.com and Kith EU for US$235 (990V4, 990V3), US$225 (990V2) and US$195 (990V1). More specific release details and timings below.
