In January 2022, news surfaced that the ’90s adidas ADIMATIC skateboarding silhouette, would be making a comeback in “Black” and “Green” colourways. Shortly after, three more colourways were revealed, “Forest”, “Orange” and “Blue”. We now know that atmos will be taking on the “Blue” colourway, dubbing it “atmos Blue”.

There’s many reasons why the adidas ADIMATIC was a cult favourite of its time. Besides being an almost perfect skate shoe, it was also the formula from which some of the notoriously skate shoes of the late ’90s sprung. The layers of thick, reinforcing material topped with suede protected the foot from scuffs and scrapes. The generous cushioning made skateboarding comfortable and kept your feet warm in cold climates. The tall midsole wrap helped to contain the foot, and the thick laces allowed for elasticity. The best part of the ADIMATIC was that it fulfilled all this utility while maintaining a great aesthetic, resulting in a silhouette that was not too fat, nor too sleek – just right.

Atmos clearly knew this and tailored their contribution accordingly – producing a colourway involving a deep “atmos Blue” that saturates the majority of the suede upper. The vibrant blue contrasts with clean white, resulting in a simple but eye-catching design. To go along with the ADIMATIC’s release, atmos has also announced a pair of white and “atmos Blue” three-stripes socks with atmos branding on the foot, as well as an atmos x adidas ADIMATIC short-sleeve graphic T-shirt designed by Japanese painter sKetChboOok3.

The adidas ADIMATIC “atmos Blue” sneakers are up for lottery on atmos’ website until 10 June, 8:59AM JST. Following this, the sneakers and apparel collection will release on atmos’ website and directly managed stores on 11 June. The retail price for “atmos Blue” sneakers is set at ¥13,200 (US$99), while the graphic tees are priced at ¥5,940 JPY (US$44). More details below.
