IBN Jasper is an individual with many talents — he is a celebrity barber, a fashion designer, and as revealed in Kanye West’s Netflix docuseries, the rapper’s personal stylist. A one-man all-star, if you will. So it comes as no surprise that Converse and their iconic star logo has invited Jasper to design two variations of the Converse One Star.

In an Instagram post, Jasper reveals that his designs were inspired by Overhaulin’, a reality television series centred on automobiles: “Taking an old school and resto-modding, restoration and modification, and putting all modern technology in it.” And this is exactly what he does with the One Star. The heels and midsoles are reinforced in a gridded pattern, imitating a car’s rear bumper. This inclusion, however, is not purely for aesthetics. Rather, it makes the sneaker more skateboarding-friendly as it gives more support to the wearer, tying the automotive theme with another of Jasper’s interests: skateboarding.

3M piping, inclusion of a toebox and the use of pearl snake boosts the appearance of the shoe. The luxe outer is fortified by a well-designed interior. Its insole is a triple layer of cork (as found in skateboards), polyurethane Zoom Strobel and OrthoLite foam (as found in the anti-fatigue mats that barbers use). Essentially, its technology ensures that wearers receive ample support for their activities.

In this overhaul of the One Star, Jasper’s inclusions combine his passions and talents, undoubtedly showing off his flair as a designer. His resto-modded Converse One Star is made available in two colourways — black and white — and retails at USD$150. Scroll on for images and release details:
