Nike Reintroduces “World Champions” Style with Dunk High
Nike's World Champion make-up returns as a Dunk High with a sleek monochromatic base embellished with a golden victory belt and purple trimmings.
[Update 29 Aug] If you’ve been eyeing this pair since it was first teased, your moment of glory is nigh! A release date has come upon us, go get your championship gold (at least in the form of the wrestling belt-inspired lace dubrae). 2nd September on Nike.com, for US$135.
Nike’s Dunk is no stranger to the sneakerverse, and has continuously reinvented itself with fresh colourways. Back in April, the team behind the iconic Swoosh released a “World Champ” iteration of its Dunk Low, complete with a lace charm similar to that of a victory wrestling belt. This is perhaps the brand’s homage towards its namesake, “Nike”, who is the Winged Goddess of Victory in Greek mythology.
Fast forward to May and images of a high-top version of the World Championship make-up is starting to make its rounds. Similar to the Dunk Low, the Dunk High features the embellished MMA-style victory belt on its laces. Its gold sheen stands out against the sleek black and white leather. Though the striking charm remains the star of the show, the signature Swoosh on the Dunk’s side does not fade into the background. Instead, a cheeky purple shade trims the logo and is also prominent in the shoe’s collar and tongue — a welcomed contrast that livens up the design.
Nike has yet to produce an official release date for this “World Championship”-style Dunk High, but it is expected to roll out later in the year.
