With the bases loaded, Nike brings it home with another MLB-inspired Nike SB Dunk colourway. The Nike SB Dunk Low “Phillies” takes its inspiration from the retro colours of the 1980s Philadelphia Phillies jerseys.
Nike’s famous “Dunk” silhouette is enjoying an unprecedented boom. Since the original model in 1985, the low-profile sole and durable design have been readily accepted by the skate community. In 2002, Nike doubled down on the model’s skateboarding status with the “Dunk SB”, which featured full-fledged protection for skateboarding. Since then, the release of creative variations of the shoes captivated not just the skate scene, but also sneaker and streetwear collectors alike. Today, the “Dunk SB” is extremely popular and most designs sell out upon release.
From the “Dunk SB” design vault, a pair of Dunk SB Lows with unique MLB team colours are on standby for release. Inspired by the uniforms worn by MLB Champions Philadelphia Phillies in the 80s, this SB Dunk Low makes use of unique tones of University Blue and Team Red that tie into the “Phillies” colourway. As one examines the design, smaller details reveal themselves – like the Philly Cheesesteak and Philadelphia Liberty Bell graphics on each inner tongue tab of the pair. Meanwhile, the outsole has a bright pink chewing gum detail – much like the chewing gum that MLB players famously chew during the game. The casual playfulness of the “Nike SB” style makes for a pair that are a delight to wear.
