The Nike SB Dunk, inspired by one of MLB’s most popular teams, the Miracle Mets, is here!!

Nike SB Dunk was born in 2002 in response to high demand by skaters. The silhouette of yesteryear has been updated with higher performance specs, durability and cushioning. The Nike SB Dunk is a fusion of skate, sneaker and street culture which boasts a wide range of variations.

This variation of the Nike SB Dunk is inspired by the “New York Mets,” a baseball team born into the MLB on 1962. After nearly a decade of sub-par results, the Mets broke away from their ‘doormat team’ status in 1969, winning its first championship and was dubbed the “Miracle Mets”. On the day of the team’s triumphant victory parade, the weather in New York was said to be “confetti after sunshine.

The Nike SB Dunk High “New York Mets” upper is made of nylon mesh with suede overlays. The Royal Blue and Orange Swoosh symbolises the Mets’ iconic home colours. The design features plenty of niche references which Mets fans would be glad to see – the right tongue tab features the “Home Run Apple,” which appears in the middle of Citi Field when a Mets player hits a home run. The left tongue tab contains the number “7” contained within a purple circle, symbolic of the Number 7 Subway line that services the home of the Mets, Citi Field.

Like the Nike SB Dunk Low “Phillies,” which are also scheduled to release on 26 July 2022, the sole will feature details such as a pink patch of ‘chewing gum’ that players chew during games, providing a final blast of fan-service for Major League Baseball fans.
